I started journaling but every time I stop after only a few days. Hopefully some of these tips will help.
I'm running over there now. Just wanted to add that I've written in my journal my entire life. Well, at least since I first learned to write. Eight years old. Only then I called it a diary. I would give anything to have in my possession the journals of my grandmothers. What a thrill.
What a cool idea! I don't think I'm disciplined enough to write in a journal every day. When I was a creative writing major, we used to have to do it all the time, and I struggled to keep up with it. But having prompts probably helps, I bet.
I never could journal--I just never seemed to have anything to say outside of the fiction writing. Someone else I know journals faithfully, adds passages from books she likes, as well as almost anything else that occurs to her.
I used to journal when I was a teen.
I journaled in high school - but I burned all those long ago :) Maybe one day!
Writing every day is a great way to hone your writing skills. Thanks for sharing the article.
Hi Susanne .. I've never journaled, or "diaried" .. I have my aunt's diaries of her gardens and things to do about the house for about 24 years .. probably not riveting stuff - but certainly (sometime) good to read ... and I do have a box of another personal info re my mother and her first husband, before he was killed early in the War .. that will become something sometime.
My letters - aren't journals as such .. but they are things that interest me - with a different take on life ... and I have a stash of info that should be turned into other P Ls ... they should probably be ditched - but .....
We'll see - I'm popping over now .. Cheers Hilary
When I first entered college, one English class had us all journaling. I did it for a long while and developed short-story ideas from it. But eventually stopped. Not writing much fiction now or would take it up.
A great post it was.
Thank You.
I've been journaling for years and if I miss a few days I actually get out of sync. It puts my day into prospective when I do it first thing.

Do blog posts and comments count? I probably write over a thousand words a day if they do.
Thanks for the information. I've been thinking I want to journal more..
I agree with this! Journaling is such a great way to learn writing. I've always kept one, but I don't write in it nearly often enough. Time to change that.
I used to write in a journal every day. Not so much anymore. Wish I had more time.
Thank you for the link and information. I think journal writing is the first step towards writing in general.
