Blogging From A to Z Challenge - J

This will be a walk down memory lane, so to speak. The majority of the books I will be blogging about were acquired during my son's childhood. I will be blogging about children's, MG, and Tween books that are on the bookshelves, with a few being found on the Kindle for PC. The titles will either have words that correspond with the letter of the day, will be on a topic that corresponds with the letter of the day or both. As I'm finding a couple of the letters a bit challenging, I may need to borrow a book or two from the library to complete the challenge.

Today is Wednesday, April 11th.  It is the 10th day of the Blogging From A to Z Challenge.  Today's letter is J.

Written and Illustrated by Randy Houk
The book was originally published by the Benefactory, Inc., which produces books, tapes and toys that foster animal protection and environmental preservation.  This edition was published by Reader's Digest Young Families, Inc.
This book is a true story of a cat who was rescued by the Northeast Animal Shelter - The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)

My son's 3rd grade class all received a copy of this book from their teacher, Mr. M.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - Have you ever adopted an animal from a shelter?

Yes I have. He was a Persian cat that was scheduled to be put down the next day. No one wanted to adopt him because had a heart problem. Except I have a heart problem. A heart that couldn't let him die. So I adopted him. Turns out he was healthy, but in the end we had to give him away because son developed asthma. :(

Yep! And we rescue animals all the time. Frodo is a shiatsu and his previous owners were mean to him. His right eye had to be removed and he only has 60% vision in the other eye. But he is spoiled now. We love him so much.

What a great book. I don't think I know it. Do now though. I'll have to get it. What a wonderful idea for a book! :-)

We haven't but have often talked about it. I stand and clap for people who adopt pets!

Nice post.
Adopted? No. I am deathly allergic, I can't even walk into an animal shelter without my throat closing up.

I am trying to read all the A to Z blogs, but coming back to the ones I really like.
Looking forward to seeing what you do all month!

I do want a rescue pet, but I don't think I'm ready for the responsibility yet.

Look forward to your challenge run…

Never adopted a pet, but I have a friend who does a lot to try to re-home dogs over here via facebook and twitter in our local area. She and her friend do a fantastic job even though some of it is quite harrowing and they work for free. We have our own dog- a jack russell named Pablo. :)

Yes. We got our Leo at the shelter last year. We love him. I think my boys would like this book, even though they're not little anymore.

Our dog Pearl was a shelter puppy. She loves comfort and food... just like me. :)

Hi there! Stopping by from A to Z...and to answer your question: No I have never adopted. We have no pets, I know, I am a horrible mother :) But if I were to ever want to push the bounds of my sanity, then we would not buy an animal, we would certainly adopt one.

No. We've never really been pet people.

Not unless you count the outdoors a shelter--strays.

My daughter has a sweet rescue cat.

Definitely I've adopted from a shelter. I adopted 3 lovely kitties when I lived in Albuquerque. Two were kittens and 1 was fully grown.

Love the kids books you've posted so far, but my kids only read One Fish, Two Fish and I think the Arthur one. The rest were new to me.

Hi Susanne .. I did when I was in South Africa - and wanted a companion to "my boy" - a bull terrier .. they were great together.

Jasmine sounds an excellent name for a cat with a story to tell ...

Cheers Hilary
