Blogging From A to Z Challenge - P

This will be a walk down memory lane, so to speak. The majority of the books I will be blogging about were acquired during my son's childhood. I will be blogging about children's, MG, and Tween books that are on the bookshelves, with a few being found on the Kindle for PC. The titles will either have words that correspond with the letter of the day, will be on a topic that corresponds with the letter of the day or both. As I'm finding a couple of the letters a bit challenging, I may need to borrow a book or two from the library to complete the challenge.

Today is Wednesday, April 18th.  It is the 16th day of the Blogging From A to Z Challenge.  Today's letter is P.

Usborne Cookery School
Pasta & Pizza For Beginners

Author:  Fiona Watt

Inside this book you will find a lot of wonderful recipes and each one has a picture of the finished dish.  The step-by-step directions of each recipe are very easy to understand.

Since this is a book for beginners, there are step-by-step directions for cutting onions, garlic, and mushrooms.  Included is a picture of different types of pastas, each one labeled as to what they are, and directions on how to cook them.

Would you like to make spaghetti alla carbonara or pasta with green vegetables?  Perhaps you'd rather make a Chicago pizza pie or hot apple pizza?  There are recipes for these and much more.

My son and I have made the meatballs in tomato sauce and the mini pizzas.

Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants

by Dav Pilkey

www.pilkey.com

My son had read and collected several of the Captain Underpants books.  He told me this particular book had been one of his favorites.

What's not to like about this book?  It mentions underpants (which makes young kids giggle when saying it out loud) and there is a Professor whose last name is Poopypants (another word that makes kids giggle).  It is hilariously comical and appeals to young kids.

QUESTION OF THE DAY:  What is your favorite kind of pizza?

  1. My favorite kind of pizza is pepperoni! I like most kinds though, but pepperoni pizza is definitely the best. :)

  2. Hi Susanne .. the kids love their first cook books .. I gave my god-daughter one and she still doesn't cook much!! Her mother had recommended it too ... now said god-daughter is training to be a doctor - so has to do some cooking!!

Pizza - I don't eat it often .. I like the one with anchovies, olives, artichokes, etc etc etc .. and a big Greek salad ..

    Cheers Hilary

  3. I've spent many happy hours cooking and baking with my girls as they were growing up. Both are in their early 20's now and excellent cooks.

My favorite pizza-pretty much any pizza is my favorite-eaten while sitting on a sunny piazza in Italy : )

  4. Favorite pizza: Pizza Hut's Super Supreme, otherwise, I prefer anything from Papa John's

My oldest daughter (now 18) read Captain Underpants during her elementary years.

My youngest daughter loved kids' cookbooks. She had a pizza and pasta one, though not from Usborne Publishing. :)

  6. The pizza book sounds really good. And Captain Underpants? My son loves that guy! Dav Pilkey must be a genious or something, because many reluctant readers have positively gobbled up his books.

  7. Joyce, my son and I used to cook/bake a lot when he was younger. That was our mommy/son time. As he got older and more independent, he would put his own spin on recipes. Now that he is older (19), he fixes his dad and I dinner once in awhile.

Linda, yep, my son (now 19) read them when he was in elementary school.

Lots of yummy pizza favorites! Now I'm making myself hungry for pizza. : ) My favorite pizza is a veggie pizza.

  10. I don't know that they had any kids' cookbooks when I was younger. I used to enjoy going through my mother's Betty Crocker cookbook when I was a boy to find things I could make or things I wanted my mother to make. Cookbooks can be a lot of fun.

  12. Both of these books look cute. As for my favorite kind of pizza, I don't know. That's a hard one, cheese, margherita, or veggie, and sometimes pepperoni if I'm feeling dangerous.
